GREENCASTLE -- For the third year in a row, the City of Greencastle has been named the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) Green Community of the year.

Since 2008, when the Association first began offering the competition, Greencastle has been the sole winner in communities of its size and the only community to repeat in any category.

The recognition was made at the IACT annual meeting in Ft. Wayne on Oct. 4. City Planner Shannon Norman was at the event to accept the award and to participate in a workshop sharing Greencastle's best practice efforts.

Other winners this year, in their population categories, included the cities of Indianapolis, Goshen and Whiting.

"It's with great pride that Greencastle will place another Green Community of the Year sign at one of our entrances," Mayor Sue Murray said. "This designation is the result of the efforts put forth by all city employees to save money while helping to protect the environment."
