Advocate Hospice seeking Putnam County volunteers

Thursday, October 28, 2010

DANVILLE -- Advocate Hospice, a locally owned and operated hospice agency, has an immediate need for hospice volunteers in Beech Grove, Greenwood, Southport, Indianapolis, Putnam, Greencastle and surrounding areas to make patient visits.

There is an administrative need for a volunteer to assist with coordination of the volunteer program.

This person will assist in training, placing volunteers for various administrative duties, scheduling with our patients and their families and help with special events.

Days and hours are flexible and can fit almost anyone's schedule.

"The support hospice volunteers provide both to our agency administratively and with terminally ill patients and their caregivers and families is greatly needed and appreciated," says Linda Richardson, president. "Volunteers can make all the difference helping out in the hospice office or by staying with the patient for a few hours at a time and providing families and caregivers some freedom to do other things, such running errands or taking a break."

Hospice volunteers often read to the patient, converse, play games, perform light housekeeping or cooking, or make crafts and decorations for the patient's home.

Other much needed volunteer opportunities are available in the Advocate Hospice office assisting with paperwork, answering the phone or other office duties.

All Volunteers receive special training through the Advocate Hospice Volunteer Training Program.

If you would like to help the residents in your community, contact James Paino at Advocate Hospice (317) 745-5147 or toll-free at 877-745-5147.
