TERRE HAUTE -- The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra and Music Director David Bowden announce a special reception and dinner fundraiser for Di Wu, internationally known pianist and guest artist for the Nov. 13 concert.

The reception, which is open to the public, will be held on the night of Friday, Nov. 12 at the Country Club of Terre Haute. Guests will have an opportunity to meet her and be treated to a sampling of her musical talent.

Wu is the winner of multiple awards, most significantly, a coveted prize at the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The recent 90-minute PBS documentary "A Surprise in Texas" shows the intense competition among a group of incredibly talented musicians from around the world for recognition in the Van Cliburn competition.

Praised in The Wall Street Journal as "a most mature and sensitive pianist," Chinese-born Wu continues to enhance her enviable reputation as an elegant and yet exciting musician. Highlights of her past season featured debuts with the Philadelphia Orchestra; at Chicago's Ravinia Festival; at the Cincinnati May Festival; in Germany, with the Hamburg Philharmonic; and in Tokyo, where she appeared as a soloist with the orchestra for an audience of 11,000.

"Di Wu is an astonishingly gifted pianist with a prodigious technique and a rich expressive style who immediately connects with an audience," Bowden said. "She is an absolute delight to work with, and everyone in the orchestra is excited to have her back again.

"The Tchaikovsky concerto is a perfect fit for her musicianship and has become something of a signature piece for her. So many people told me how disappointed they were to have missed her the last time she was here due to their having other commitments."

The Nov. 12 reception will begin at the Country Club of Terre Haute with cocktails at 6 p.m. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. with a menu that includes, beef tenderloin, cheddar potatoes, salad, beverage and Italian cream cake for dessert.

The price for tickets is $55 per person; $20 of the ticket price is tax deductible.

For tickets to the Di Wu Reception at the Country Club, please call the Terre Haute Symphony office at 812-242-8476. Pre-paid reservations must be made in advance -- no reservations can be accepted after Monday, Nov. 8. Please note that tickets for the dinner and reception are separate from the regular concert performance tickets.

Tickets for Wu's Nov. 13 concert performance are available at the Hulman Center Ticket Office Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or at the door the night of the performance, which will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. in ISU's Tilson Auditorium.
