Mary E. Moore, 85, of Brazil, passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010 following a seven-month illness.

She had been a resident at Cloverleaf Health Care for the last 10 days.

She was born April 7, 1925 the daughter of Louis and Ada (Cagle) Joyner.

Mary graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1943. She married David Beryl Moore Dec. 12, 1948; he preceded her in death July 30, 2005. She was a devoted and loving farm wife, mother and grandmother.

Mary enjoyed working alongside Beryl as they managed their farm for more than 60 years. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially traveling with family. Mary also enjoyed singing and had a beautiful alto voice. During the course of her life she often sang at weddings, funerals and community events. In her younger years she sang with a traveling USO group to welcome soldiers when they returned from World War II.

Family and friends have been blessed with many gifts from Mary's talent in embroidery, crocheting, sewing and painting.

Mary was a very active member of Union United Methodist Church where she taught many years of kindergarten class and was a soloist and choir member. Mary was also a member of the United Methodist Women where she had held several offices and helped coordinate the food committee that served for funerals and other community events.

She was thankful for her independence in staying in her home for the past 62 years. Mary also enjoyed the companionship of her Dalmatian dog "C.D."

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband David Beryl Moore; brothers Louis Joyner and Howard Joyner; and sister Kathryn Tilley.

Survivors include her son John Moore and wife Mary Ann; daughter Kay Henke and husband Jerry all of Brazil; grandchildren: Dustin Moore, Evan Moore, Jeremy Henke, Graham Henke, Kolby Henke, Andy Henke and wife Jennifer and Danny Henke and wife Crystal; great-grandchildren Hailey, Nicholas, Holley, Hallie Henke and Jaxon Henke; a sister Virginina Hicks of Danville, Ill.; sisters-in-law Ann Carol Harden and husband Brent of Centerpoint and Mary M. Moore of Brazil as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She will also be missed by a special group of caregivers, Joyce Phillips, Martha McKenzie, Rebekah Santiago and Shelly Lambert who made it possible for Mary to remain in her home for the past seven months.

Services will be at Union United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Andrew Charnstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Mary's grandsons will be serving as pall bearers.

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and again Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
