GREENCASTLE -- Going into Tuesday night's match-up against Crawfordsville High School the Lady Tiger Cubs looked to control the tempo of the game and finish their shots.

Coach Bradley Key said the team has been working hard to finish shots. A total team effort led the Cubs to a 60-37 victory over the Lady Athenians, moving their record to 6-1 on the season.

"It was a good team effort tonight," Key said. "The defense was great."

That defense gave the young Crawfordsville team fits throughout the night. The full-court press of the Tiger Cubs forced several turnovers.

Crawfordsville coach Gary Linn credited the defense of the Tiger Cubs with getting his team out of rhythm.

"They are a very experienced team," Linn said. "Alyssa Nichols is a great point guard. She has a great understanding of how to run the floor."

The Athenians played the Tiger Cubs tough in the first quarter only trailing by five at the break. Within the first 1:30 of the second quarter though Greencastle went on a 6-0 run to get the deficit to double digits. From then on the Athenians couldn't recover.

"Alyssa Nichols did a good job of driving the ball into the defense and dishing it off," Key said. "Tonight we were able to finish around the rim -- something we haven't been able to do."

Key credited the Crawfordsville defense with doing a good job on senior Mallory Miller.

Miller ended the night with seven points.

Leading the way for the Tiger Cubs was junior Taylor Pruitt with 18 points. Freshman Chelsea Samuels and senior Rayleigh Amis both had 14 points on the night.

Key said he hopes for the same team effort when the team travels to Tri-West on Tuesday.

The Greencastle junior varsity team also won, taking down Crawfordsville 39-37.
