Seth Lawrenz and parents Steve and Kim Lawrenz defended their title in the family portion of Greencastle Parks and Recreation's gingerbread house competition. The entries were judged and prizes award at Wednesday's park board meeting.

GREENCASTLE -- Even though it was a cold night outside, the smell of gingerbread kept everyone warm inside Greencastle City Hall. The warmest were the winners of the annual Gingerbread House and Brickmania Santa Claus.

In the family category, Seth Lawrenz and his parents, Kim and Steve, defended their title after winning last year. Their winning gingerbread house, "Gingerbread Snowball Fun and Bunny Hutch," took two hours to make. The Lawrenz family combined all of the sugary treats that Seth liked, including ice cream cones, cookies and chocolate, with his love of snowball fights. Kim based the bunny hutch, featuring bunnies in a fenced area, on a bunny hutch she once had.

"We used to have a bunny hutch...and he likes snowball fights," Kim Lawrenz said. "I told him if he made the snowballs I would make the hutch."

In the group category, the Mill Pond Health Campus, represented by Kelly Robertson, won with their gingerbread house, "Legacy Kane," which featured Santa in his sleigh. Haylee Romalia won the individual category with her gingerbread house, "Santa's Summer Home." This house was set up to look like a beach resort and even had a reindeer on an inner tube floating in a pool.

Siblings Whitney and Sedrick Weinschenk were the co-champions in the Brickmania Santa Claus competition.

Whitney and Sedrick Weinschenk tied for first with their Santa Clauses, "Classic Santa" and "Big Hat Santa." Catherine and Angie Weeks took second in the family competition with "Candy Wonderland."
