New Year's Day run a success

To the Editor:

Mental Health America of Putnam County held its first annual New Year's Day 5K Fun Run & Walk on Saturday.

We were so lucky to have a beautiful day, which I'm sure encouraged our 65 participants to join us. I would like to thank those participants for helping to make our first effort at this event so successful.

MHAPC would like to express our gratitude to the following people and organizations for their help in making our Fun Run a reality: Joy Marley, for allowing us to take advantage of the new People Pathways trail and for supplying our runners and walkers with reusable water bottles; the Greencastle Police Department for keeping the crossways safe for our runners and walkers; Principal Dan TeGrotenhuis for allowing us to start, finish and serve refreshments at TZ Intermediate School and to Greencastle McDonald's for providing the wonderful refreshments.

In addition to these wonderful folks, we also had great volunteers, both Board Members and Community Members, including two lovely young ladies from McDonald's. We could not have had such a successful event without all of their hard work.

We hope to see even more members of the community join us next New Year's Day for our second annual Fun Run & Walk. We certainly enjoy promoting mental wellness by promoting healthy, fun activities.

Look for our "Mind Your Health 2-mile walk and 4-mile run this coming July!
