GHS alumni scholarships offered

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle High School alumni scholarships are once again being offered this year. Applications are available from the Greencastle High School Guidance Councilor or the Putnam County Foundation.

The GHS Alumni Scholarship Fund has awarded over seventy scholarships to GHS graduates since its inception in 1995. The fund is housed in the Putnam County Foundation and only the interest is used for scholarships so the fund will continue into perpetuity. A $50 donation to the scholarship fund gives you a free year's membership to the Alumni Association, and the contribution can be made in memory of, or in honor of, anyone you choose.

Applications are considered from any GHS graduate who attended Greencastle High School for at least two years and is enrolled in an accredited college or other approved institution. Equal weight is given to the applicant's scholarship, citizenship and need. The Greencastle Alumni Board writes the application and the selection committee is from the board as well.

The Putnam County Foundation must approve our selection but all other aspects of the scholarship are independent of the Foundation.

You may apply for the scholarship regardless of the year you graduated. The due date for the applications this year is March 15. Any applications received at the Community Foundation after this date will not be considered. Recipients are eligible to apply or re-apply for this scholarship during their undergraduate college term. Therefore, some of our recipients have received the GHS Alumni Scholarship more than one year. At least two scholarships are given to graduating seniors each year.

The Greencastle Alumni Association also sponsors an all-class reunion every two years. With this reunion classmates get a chance to see and visit with alums of other classes. While some classes don't have reunions this also allows classmates of those classes to get together. The next all-school class reunion will be June 25 at Dixie Chopper Conference and Convention Center at the Greencastle Airport.
