GREENCASTLE -- Four days after a shock in the WCC meet at DePauw Saturday, the Greencastle boys' and girls' swim teams met up with Cascade for a dual meet Wednesday.

On Saturday, Cascade's girls team nipped Greencastle by two points and looked to prove that the win had not been a fluke.

Over the course of the meet, Cascade snapped up seven victories, but had to sweat out the final few events as several close races went in Greencastle's favor in order to secure a 97-89 win over the hosts.

Cascade's depth allowed them to negate many of the wins that Greencastle accumulated while accentuating their own victories, particularly in the short freestyle races.

The last three events in the girls' half of the meet captured the competitive measure of the meet, though. Each of the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 400 medley relay came down to the wire.

With the crowd cheering on, Greencastle's Sydney Terry, Emily Wheeler and relay anchor Allison Howard each scored wins in the final three races.

While the effort was abundant, the result was just out of reach and Greencastle head coach Luke Beasley assessed it well.

"I thought, in certain spots they out competed us and in other we out competed them, but in the end it was the same result as Saturday, and that's the way it goes sometimes. Right now, they're just a little bit better than us," Beasley said.

"I though Rosio Gomez had a nice meet in the 200 IM and the 100 fly. Allison Howard had a great meet. It was pretty exciting to see her race as she was coming from behind in the last relay.

"Emily Wheeler winning the breaststroke, that was really exciting. That was a switch; that girl out-touched her at conference and Emily was able to get the win tonight, so we're really proud of her," Beasley added.

"The girls know that they've got to keep training, focus and do everything they can to be their best at the end of the year. It's another step along the way."

The boys' half of the meet was a romp for Greencastle, who claimed all twelve events with eight second place finishes to ease by the Cadets, 132-53.

With the ability to be flexible, several different relay teams were formed and racers normally in one event found themselves lodged in other spots.

One positive was diver Matt Sims, who won the conference meet and Wednesday's meet. his second meet of the season. Beasley was quick to credit diving coach Christie Klinger and assistant Molly Harbison for their work in the last few days.

As far as the meet itself, Beasley was more relaxed about the performance of the boys.

"I thought they competed hard, had fun, they enjoyed what they were doing and they're continuing to make the kind of progress that we need to see. We need to build on the momentum that we started at conference," Beasley said.

"There's no secret to what we're trying to do. The boys' know it and it's up to them to go out and accomplish it."
