Tiger Cubs stay perfect in conference after victory

Saturday, January 22, 2011

CLAYTON -- The Greencastle boys' basketball team outscored the Cascade Cadets in the second quarter of Friday night's game 22-6 rn route to win.

That 16-point deficit was the difference in the game after 32-minutes of action as the scoreboard read 73-57 in favor of Greencastle.

Greencastle sophomore Hayden Stuckwisch's 20 points in the first half helped to propel the Tiger Cubs to a 20-point lead at halftime. He alone outscored the Cadets by a point in the first half. Cascade trailed 39-19.

"It was a good overall effort tonight," said Troy Greenlee, Tiger Cubs head coach. "It was a good win for us."

Greenlee said, that going into every game his team knows that their opponents are going to focus on the Cubs inside play.

Cascade did just that in the first half, but the Tiger Cubs shot 6-of-9 from the three-point line for 18 points.

"Our outside shooting in the first half helped to open up the inside game," said Greenlee.

Cascade made a run at the GHS in the fourth quarter cutting the lead to 57-45 with 6:40 to go.

At that point in the game, Greenlee took a timeout to settle his team down.

The Cadets also picked up the intensity in the fourth quarter, committing several fouls and sending Greencastle to the line where they shot 16-of-22 for the second half. Stuckwisch hit 5-of-6 shots from the line and senior Tyler Lewis hit 6-of-7. The Cubs shot 73-percent from the line on the night.

Leading the way for the Cubs was Stuckwisch with 26 points. Junior Nick Hutcheson had 19 while senior Lewis had 14.

Greencastle is off until next Friday when they take on the North Putnam Cougars.

"We know that we are going to have to be emotionally and physically ready for that game," said Greenlee. "They will come out and give us a good game.

"We have to work on being tough minded."
