Tiger Cub seventh graders pick up wins

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle seventh grade A and B basketball teams picked up a pair of victories against Southmont recently.

In the first game, the A-team jumped out to an early first half lead and took a 19-10 lead going into the locker room. GMS was led by Brandon Gierke with nine points.

The visiting Mounties made the proper adjustments at halftime and in the third quarter scored the first eight points, closing the home team lead to one, 19-18.

Following a timeout, the Tiger Cubs regained their composure and went on a 7-0 run themselves to close the quarter with a 26-18 lead.

The final stanza was all Tiger Cubs as they utilized their height and quickness to build a comfortable lead and close the game out 40-23.

Greencastle was led in scoring with Gierke's 15 points, followed by Cole Edgar with 10 and Chase Chew with eight. Ryan Coble did a good job running the offense, dishing out a team-high six assists, followed by Zach Wilkerson and Chase Chew with four each. The victory improves the A team record to 10-2 on the season.

In the B game, the Tiger Cubs jumped out to a quick lead and were never really challenged. A big 12-point second quarter gave the home team a comfortable 21-12 halftime lead.

The Tiger Cubs went on to outscore the visitors 22-8 in the second half and coasted to a 43-20 win.

Peyton Walker led all scorers with 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. He was helped in scoring by Brayden White who chipped in 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and two steals. Tyler Lamb also had two steals. The B team record improves to 4-1 on the season.
