Tiger Cubs hoopsters split with Edgewood recently

ELLETSVILLE -- In seventh grade basketball action, the visiting Greencastle Tiger Cubs traveled to Edgewood for a pair of contests. In the first game, the B-team pulled out a thrilling one-point victory, 24-23. The hometown Mustangs built a lead throughout the first half of the game, going into the locker room with a 15-10 advantage.

The Tiger Cubs didn't fair much better in the third quarter as the host Mustangs extended their lead to 23-13 in the stanza.

Anthony Rossok hit a jumper just before the end of the quarter, to pull the Tiger Cubs within eight.

In the final quarter, the Tiger Cubs got to work and pressured the Mustangs into numerous turnovers and converting those mistakes into easy baskets. In the fourth quarter, GMS outscored their opponents 9-0 to pull out the one-point victory.

Greencastle was led in scoring by Brayden White and Tyler Lamb with six points each. Peyton Walker followed with three. The victory improves the B-team record to 5-1 on the season.

In the second game, the A-team wasn't as successful, losing 37-33.

The Tiger Cubs experienced cold shooting throughout the game, but stayed close, only falling behind by four in the last few minutes. Greencastle was paced in scoring by Brandon Gierke and Ryan Coble with 11 and nine points. respectively. Cole Edgar chipped in with six points and seven rebounds. Coble also had four steals, while Zach Wilkerson had three.

The loss drops the A-team record to 10-4 on the season.
