Frances Scobee

Mrs. Frances Mae Scobee, 89 of Greencastle passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Hickory Creek at Sunset Healthcare.

Born Aug. 12, 1921 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Frank DeVaney and Vertie (Cox) Nelson. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School's class of 1940.

She married William Henry Scobee on June 28, 1941 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 1988.

Frances had been a homemaker and worked at Lane Bryant in Indianapolis before she married. She was a member of the First Baptist Church; Home Ec. Club; Friendship Club; Sierra Club; Indianapolis Art Museum and the Putnam County Humane Society.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Kay Scobee of Greencastle; a son, Steven Michael (Sherry L.) Scobee of Greencastle; two grandchildren, Stacey R. (Jerry) Bean of Greencastle and Sean M. (Marci) Scobee of Ladoga; four great-grandchildren, Emma Nikole Scobee, Piper Klara Scobee, Jerica Renea Bean and Jordan Nathaniel Bean.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a twin sister, Frankie Cox; and her stepfather, James Frank "John Ike" Nelson.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Monday at the First Baptist Church, Greencastle, with the Rev. Randy McNeely officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the American Cancer Society, Humane Society of Putnam County or the National Kidney Foundation.
