Julia Friend Albin Johnson

Mrs. Julia "Judy" M. Friend Albin Johnson, 85, Greencastle, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Dec. 4, 1925 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of John Arthur and Maude (Hamm) Friend. She married Wilmer James "Junior" Albin in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1986. She later married Dr. James B. Johnson in 1987 and he preceded her in death in 1997.

She was a 1943 graduate of Greencastle High School and from the Methodist School of Nursing, where she received her Indiana Nurses License in 1948.

She was president of the Putnam County Community Foundation from 1994 to 1996. Judy also served as the Greencastle Kiwanis President from 1993 to 1994 and received the Greencastle Chamber of commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 1994. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta Phi sorority, the Modern Mother's Study Club, and was active in civic affairs and serving the community in Putnam County area for many years. She was a member of the Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church and First Christian Church of Greencastle

Judy worked for Dr. James B. Johnson as a nurse for 31 years before retiring in 1989, where she stayed busy as a volunteer for the Putnam County Hospital Guild.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Robert (Cathy) Albin of Greencastle; stepsons Dr. James B. (Janet) Johnson Jr. of Hopewell, NJ and Charles Johnson of Indianapolis; stepdaughters Dr. Sara "Sally" (Thomas) Ross of Collinsville, Ill. and Katherine "Kate" (William) Webb-Radar of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Joy Rader, Jesse Albin, James D. Albin, Jennifer Lewis and Heidi Menzel; six stepgrandchildren, Heather Hsu, Hillary Webb, Krista Hogan, Jennifer Moyse, Michael Ross and Wyreck Rader; seven great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; and son James Robert Albin.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gobin United Methodist Church with Revs. P.T. Wilson, Paul Champion and Michael Wren officiating, with burial to follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
