Berniece Erma Toney

Berniece Erma Toney, 96, Greencastle passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1914 in Putnam County, to W. Alfred Cooper and Eva L. Cooper.

In 1934, she married Andrew Lee Toney who passed away in 2001. Lee and Berniece had been the caretakers for the Allison Children's Home in Greencastle from 1962 to 1972. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greencastle.

Surviving are ten foster children, Karl and Frank Kyle, Randy and Don Barnett, John Rumley, Charles Jones, Julie Paduano, Annette Web, Lisa Rumley, and Judy Fitzsimmons; two brothers, Lloyd Cooper and wife Marjorie, and Charles Cooper and wife Karen; 18 foster grandchildren, 10 foster great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Toney was also preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Lee Toney; three sisters, Marcella, Geneva and Lela; and two foster daughters, Debbie Clark and Shirley Overshiner.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
