Mallory Miller named Player of the Year

Banner Graphic/CAINE GARDNER GHS senior Mallory Miller was named the 2010-11 Banner Graphic Player of the Year for the third straight season.

GREENCASTLE -- The 2010-11 girls basketball season in Putnam County was one that had its share of highs and lows. Greencastle put together a solid 12-8 season, while Cloverdale, North Putnam and South Putnam struggled to find the winning formula.

Even in their struggles, Cloverdale enjoyed an emotional homecoming win over North Putnam, South Putnam closed its regular season with a win over the Clovers and North Putnam snagged a sectional opening win over the Clovers.

This years breakdown for the All-County selections are four players from Greencastle and two each from Cloverdale, North Putnam and South Putnam.

Greencastle's Mallory Miller has been named the 2010-11 Putnam County Player of the Year. It's the third consecutive year Miller has won the honor and she led the four GHS players on the All-County team.

Mallory Miller

Miller, a GHS senior, scored 308 points on the season for a 15.4 point average and dished out 42 assists along the way. In her shooting guard role, Miller shot 33 percent from three-point range and 49 percent from inside the arc. She also hauled in 77 rebounds and made 44 steals.

Chelsea Samuels

Fellow senior Chelsea Samuels was the second leading scorer with 243 points (12.2 avg.) and was second in rebounding with 121, including 54 offensive boards. Samuels added 41 steals and 28 blocks to anchor the Tiger Cubs in the middle.

Alyssa Nichols

GHS point guard Alyssa Nichols, a senior, was the third leading scorer for GHS and the top scoring point guard in the county this season. In addition to her 202 point (10.1 avg.), she dished out 94 assists, had 38 steals and pulled down 52 rebounds.

Taylor Pruitt

Rounding out the GHS selections is junior Taylor Pruitt. Pruitt was the Tiger Cub's leading rebounder with 145, including 56 offensive rebounds. She also had 42 steals and seven blocks and 10 assists for Greencastle.

Paige Gruener

Paige Gruener, a sophomore point guard, scored 160 points on the season for a 7.6 per game average. She also collected 45 rebounds from her guard position and had 32 steals for the Clovers.

Sydney Shrum

Sydney Shrum led the county in rebounding this season with a total of 188, including a whopping 74 offensive boards for Cloverdale. The scrappy sophomore also chipped in five points for the Clovers and had 18 steals.

Megan Robinson

North Putnam senior Megan Robinson was tops for her team in scoring with 193 points (9.7 avg.) this season. She was also the team's top rebounder with 95 total boards, with 33 coming from the offensive side. She had 25 assists, 31 steals and 13 blocks for the Cougars.

Samantha Lucas

Samantha Lucas, a North Putnam sophomore, was the team's second leading scorer with 129 points (7.2 avg.) and in rebounds with 90 rebounds. She also had 11 assists, 10 steals and nine blocks for North Putnam.

Jenna Jones

South Putnam sophomore point guard Jenna Jones was the Eagles' leading scorer this season with 152 points (8.1 avg.) and had 20 assists. She also added 22 steals, three blocks and 36 rebounds.

Leanna Masters

Leanna Masters was the Eagles' top rebounder this season with 130 rebound, including 56 offensive rebounds, and was second in scoring with 122 points (6.4 avg.). Masters, a sophomore, also recorded 11 assists and 13 blocks this season.
