Doris Ray, 94, Clay County, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 5:23 a.m. at the Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. She had been a resident there for several years.

She was born March 7, 1917 in Clay County, the daughter of Clarence "C.A." Downs and Bertha Danberry Downs.

She graduated from Van Buren High School. On June 15, 1940 she married Wesley J. "Johnny" Ray. She kept books for Johnny's body shop, called Ray's Auto Service in Carbon.

In 1951, they moved to Arizona. While in Arizona, she was very involved in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Arizona in 1969. She has been in OES for over 50 years.

In 1976 they moved back to Clay County and she enjoyed her years as homemaker. She enjoyed playing the piano and she and Johnny spent many good times camping.

Survivors include her three sons, John Ray and wife Mary of Brazil, Jim Ray and wife Terry of Chula Vista, Calif, and Terry Ray and wife Tammy of Brazil; grandchildren, Susan Ray, Karleigh Ray, Wendy Koontz, Monica Elam, Theresa Mattison, Christine Norris, and Hayden Ray; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wesley on June 10, 1999; one brother Lawrence "Shortie" Ray; one half brother, Albert Downs and one half sister Myrtle.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the French Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and again one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Eastern Star Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
