County schools solve M.A.T.H., place in regional competition

The Tzouanakis Intermediate School M.A.T.H. team finished seventh in the state at last week's competition. Central Elementary hosted the regional M.A.T.H. (Math Academic Teams for Hoosiers) competition on March 10, with 14 area teams competing for gold, bronze and silver awards in their respective classes.

The scores at Central were combined with other sites throughout the state to assemble the state rankings in each class.

Tzouanakis Intermediate School followed up its 2010 Class 3 state championship with another top 10 in the state, finishing seventh in the state and second in the region. Tzouanakis has finished in the top 10 statewide in six of the last seven years, finishing 11th in the other year.

In Class 2, host Central took home the top spot in the region, followed by Fillmore Elementary in second place.

Roachdale Elementary finished third in the Class 4 competition.

Other county schools in action were Bainbridge Elementary and Reelsville Elementary.
