Nellie Elizabeth Morlan Chavis

Nellie Elizabeth Morlan Chavis, 96, Rockville, died at 4 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Rockville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Aug. 12, 1914 in Parke County to the late Issac W. Morlan and Katheryn Miller Morlan.

She was a homemaker and had been employed at the curtain factory in Greencastle. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Bellmore. She was a 1933 graduate of Bridgeton High School.

She is survived by two sons, Kennie Chavis and wife Jerri of Britton, Mich., David Chavis and wife Judy of Rockville; one daughter, Judy McBride and husband Errol of Crawfordsville; seven grandchildren, Bill (Susan) McBride, Carol (Jeff) Vice, Cathy (John) Snyder, Mike Chavis, Debbie (John) Laney, Chris (Jeff) Buehler and Dan (Shelly) Chavis; 12 great-grandchildren, Curtis Vice, Elise Snyder, Jacob Snyder, Josh Snyder, Alex Chavis, Jack Laney, Sydney Laney, Audra Buehler, Hank Buehler, Wyatt Buehler, Gus Chavis and Greyson Chavis.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jim Chavis, on Feb. 28, 2006.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville with Pastor J. Daeschner and Rev. Dale Payne officiating. Burial will follow the services in Calcutta Cemetery in Carbon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
