Clovers fall to Southmont in opener

NEW MARKET -- The Cloverdale baseball team suffered an season opening loss to Southmont Tuesday 11-8.

The Clovers gave up 10 runs in the first inning, but settled in and closed the gap.

Head coach Bryan Archer said the team started flat, but stepped up and did a great job during the remaining innings.

Brian Dale was 1-for-4 with a home run and Cody Carter was 2-for-3. Jordan Brinkman, Ethan Atwood, Shawn Shipp and Will Anderson all had one hit.

Cloverdale will host South Putnam Monday at 4:30 p.m.
