Deer Meadow does its part for Japan

Saturday, April 9, 2011
Deer Meadow Primary School recently donated $423.35 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts following last month's disasters in Japan. Mikiko Obara presented the check on behalf of the school to Kathie Skeel of the Red Cross. Obara has a family in some of the hardest hit areas of Japan. The infrastructure was so badly damaged in some parts of the country that Obara served as a communication intermediary between them -- from 6,000 miles away. Present for the donation were, front from left, Deer Meadow students Yuma Nagayama, Darian Strong, Maieasha Rashid, Nao Shitara and Ryo Shimizu; back, Ginger Scott of the Red Cross, Obara, Skeel and Deer Meadow principal Gwen Morris.
