Born June 23, 1964 in Greencastle, he was the son of Walter and Judith (Cash) Rief and a 1982 graduate of South Putnam High School. He married Mary Sue (Stranger) Rief on August 16, 1997 and she survives.
He was an employee of Brinks Incorporated, Indianapolis, for eight years as a semi truck driver and messenger. He was also a volunteer firefighter, EMT and firefighter instructor. He was a member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles lodges of Crawfordsville. He had achieved the honor of Eagle Scout and served as a scout leader.
He was a very loving, caring husband and a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife; mother Judith Rief of Greencastle; daughters Sabrina McCloud of Crawfordsville and Mary Jane (Brian) Miller of Terre Haute; son, James (Cassie) Tomlinson of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren, Shianna and Tyler Miller, Sammy Jo, Braydon and Tamara McCloud and Makayla Tomlinson; a brother, Kevin (Kim) Rief of Greencastle; a sister, Debra Chandler of Greencastle; uncle James Cash; niece Brittney (Nikki) Chandler of Greencastle; and nephew Blain Truax of Greencastle.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Cash officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
