Thursday, April 14, 2011

MANSFIELD -- Historic Mansfield Roller Mill will be hosting events for the Mansfield Village Mushroom Festival on April 30 and May 1. The mill will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days of the festival.

Visitors can sign up for a mushroom hunt on both Saturday and Sunday. Register for the hunts at Fox's Overlook from 8 to 10 a.m. each day for $8. Visitors can buy or sell bags of morels during the mushroom auction held each day.

Sunday, May 1 will feature a car show and free oldies concert. Gift shops will have a variety of unique items for sale, including fresh, stone-ground cornmeal and other food.

Historic Mansfield Roller Mill is an almost complete and unchanged example of an 1880s grain mill. Visitors are invited to explore the historic facility's three stories of original grain milling equipment. Original equipment demonstrations will be offered both days of the festival if water levels will permit.

Historic Mansfield Roller Mill is managed by Raccoon State Recreation Area and is located six miles south of U.S. 36, on the east side of State Road 59 in Mansfield. The mill opens for the season starting with the Mansfield Village Mushroom Festival.
