DANVILLE -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team placed seventh at the Danville Invitational Saturday with a total of 347. Plainfield won the invite with a total of 320 and North Putnam was 15th on the day.

Cloverdale's Chris Arnold was the invitational medalist with his round of 77. Gary Williams followed with an 82, with Ryan Book with a 92. Colte Tomlinson shot a 96 and Sam Jordan carded a 101.

"Chris played very well under adverse conditions," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "There were some wet spots but the real challenge was the wind. He was able to take advantage of the wind in a few places, but it also created some problems as well. He had a three bogey stretch in the middle of his round, but was able to run a string of four pars and a birdie to stop the bleeding. He did a great job of managing the course and made some really great shots. He went into the tournament with the goal of competing at the highest level and he did more than that. Coming after his runner-up last week at Northview, this is a great achievement for Chris."

Wokoun said Williams played his first competitive round and picked up where he left off last season. Williams had 13 pars and Wokoun said the "thought he had a great round."

Wokoun also said Tomlinson and Book played well for most of the round Saturday, but ran into some difficult times. He said they played well under the conditions. He said Jordan couldn't catch a break the entire round. Wokoun said he didn't think his score reflected how well he played on the course.

"Our effort was an improvement and a step forward. I don't think we putted particularly well, and there were some management things we can do better. Overall, it moves us into a stronger position and gives us some confidence in what we are trying to do," Wokoun commented.
