Sheriff's Department

* April 28, 1:10 p.m.: Jacob T. Thompson, 20, Cloverdale, was following another vehicle backing out of a driveway at 4820 East CR 100S in a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. Thompson stopped for the vehicle that pulled out first and was hit by Layton D. Carter, 70, Cloverdale, in a 1999 Ford F Series.

Carter said he was unable to avoid the collision due to the first vehicle that pulled out.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.

* May 2, 5:57 p.m.: Amanda Rakestraw, 17, Poland, was northbound on U.S. 231 on Plessinger's Hill in a 2004 Ford. She was struck from behind by Kelli Barnett, 21, Winslow, in a 2010 Ford as she was attempting to turn left into a driveway.

Rakestraw said she was in the left lane, with her signal on, waiting to make the turn. Barnett said Rakestraw was in the right lane, attempting to get in the left lane, and turned left from the right lane in front of her vehicle.

Damage $5,001-$10,000.

County Jail

Jaime Ryan Bales, 33, Greencastle: Trafficking contraband with an inmate, possession of marijuana, May 4, 5:44 a.m.

Amy Beth Clark, 31, Carmel: Operating while intoxicated, May 3, 6:45 p.m.

City Fire

May 5, 2:16 p.m.: Crews were dispatched to a structure fire at 712 Maple St., Apt. C. The fire started in the kitchen stove and spread to the range hood and cabinets. The blaze was out upon the firefighters' arrival.

GFD investigated to ensure it was out and found no damage to other apartments, except some smoke in an adjoining unit. Before leaving, they evacuated the smoke from the two apartments. Cleared 2:55 p.m.
