South Putnam splits in tri-match

SPENCER -- The South Putnam boys' golf team finished second behind Owen Valley and in front of Monrovia Monday on the course. The Patriots won with a total of 171, followed by South Putnam with 178 and Monrovia with a 202.

Derek Chestnut and Alex Kelly both carded rounds of 41 for South Putnam, while Alex Eickhoff and Dyan Gilbert chipped in rounds of 48.

"Owen Valley played great on their home course," Eagles head coach Brian McClure said. "We could have been better, but I am pleased with the consistency we have been getting lately from Alex Kelly and the constant inprovement we are seeing from Derek Chestnut.

"Now we just need a few good practices and see if we can make some noise at county and conference," he added.
