TeGrotenhuis to retire at year's end

Two more of Greencastle's veteran educators will call it a career at year's end.

The Greencas-tle School Board accepted the retirements of Tzouanakis Principal Dan TeGrotenhuis and GHS band director Bob Hedge at Wednesday's meeting.

"I want to thank them for their service and wish them nothing but the best," Superintendent Bob Green said.

They join Green and teachers Mike VanRensselaer, Deborah Fenoglio, Anne Graham, Jill Green and Carolyn Ruark, who all announced their retirements in May.

The opening for the principal's position is already posted and set to close on May 16. A committee will be formed to conduct the interview process, with Deer Meadow Principal Gwen Morris likely to chair the group.

In other business:

* The board approved a four-year lease on 155 laptops for use by the faculty at a cost of $38,091.25 per year.

* The school will purchase an aquatic lift necessary for Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. The lift, which is required by March 2012, costs $6,196.69 plus $292.01 for shipping.

* The school year will be extended for special needs speech students as well as night school.

* The board approved 40 additional personnel items.

Resignations: Zachary Green as GMS custodian, Patricia Hutson as instructional assistant at GMS, Tracie Speakman as junior class co-sponsor.

Unpaid first semester maternity leave for fourth grade teacher Autumn Ramsey.

Valarie Serviss hired as Ridpath custodian.

Transfers: Robyn Miller from cafeteria assistant to McAnally custodian and David Hansell from McAnally second shift custodian to McAnally day shift head custodian.

Summer school teachers: Glenn Hile, Brad Key, Donovan Wheeler, Ali Anderson, Matt McComish, Sarah Booth, Daniel Hankee, Heider Taylor, Lindsay Ludlow, Daniel Layton, Allen Brown, Troy Greenlee and Becky Greenlee.

Summer help: Janice Heavin, Keegan Remsburg, Carol Clark, Andra Guyer, Brenda Green, Candra Warmoth, Jennifer Beck, Valarie Lenihan, Faith Liveoak, Ben Hesler, and Kayla Chadd.

Coaching: Lindsey Etchison, GHS cheer lay coach; Paige Tesmer, GHS assistant cheer coach; Garry Anderson, girls' cross country lay coach; Christopher Curt Bingman, girls' soccer lay coach; David Lilly, boys' soccer lay coach; Michael Tucker, assistant boys' soccer lay coach; Greg Lilly, boys' volunteer assistant soccer coach; David Lilly Jr., boys' volunteer assistant soccer coach; Dakota Watson, boys' volunteer assistant lay coach.
