GMS wins Putnam County title

The Greencastle Middle School boys' track team won the Putnam County Middle School championship Thursday. GHS won with a score of 77, with North Putnam finishing second with 58, South Putnam third and North Putnam fourth.

Elijah Brattain won the 2,400-meter run and the 400-meter dash. Taylor Secrest won the 1,600-meter run. The 1,600-meter relay team of Brattain, Jacob Kessler, Secrest and Sedrick Weinschenk also picked up a victory.

Greencastle swept the high jump event with Anthony Mitchell winning, with Jacob Sanders placing second and Jacob Lewis placing third.

"We dug ourselves a early hole and was behind the first 10 events of the night, but again the boys showed their heart and finished strong for GMS and brought home the county title," head coach Art Dwigans said.

Dwigans said he had multiple personal bests posted Friday. Those posting PRs included Brattain in the 400-meter, Weinschenk and Grzeseik in the 100-meter hurdles and Secrest in the 800-meters. The 400-meter relay team also posted a PR time of 50.31.
