Tiger Cub boys rack up six wins in WCC meet
The Greencastle boy's track team conquered five West Central Conference foes Friday night, tallying an impressive 146 points.
GHS began the evening with a victory in the 4x800 meter relay, pulling away from Monrovia on the last lap.
The quartet raced to the finish line in 8:38.18. Mitchell Robinson led the way for Greencastle individuals, hurdling his way to a team-best two victories on the night. Robinson won both the 110-meter (17.41 seconds) and 300-meter (42.86 seconds) hurdle events. Cameron Cash took first in the 400 meter event with a time of 52.41 seconds.
Though the Tiger Cubs weren't totally dominant regarding victories on the night, their depth proved to be too much for their opponents.
The champions added two field event victories to their resume thanks to Chad Keyt's 19-foot-10.5 inch long jump and Hayden Stuckwisch's 6-foot-3 inch high jump.
North Putnam took second place in the boy's meet with 86 points with sprinter Tyler Shorter proving to be the fastest young man of the night. Shorter, North Putnam's star quarterback, ran a speedy 23.00 second 200-meter dash and an even more shocking 11.71 second 100-meter dash. He also anchored the North Putnam 4x400 meter relay, putting the competition to his dust in the final lap of the last race of the night. Hunter Logan reeled in a discus win, tossing 134-feet-10 inches in the final.
South Putnam finished third, managing only a single victory and 78 total points. Ryan Chestnut's high jump of six feet-three inches was enough for a conference title. Cloverdale came in sixth with 48 points. Joe Rumley was the lone victor for the Clovers in the boy's 800-meter race (2:02.94).
The teams will be back in action Thursday at the Plainfield Sectional at 5 p.m.
