The Torch Is Passed

Saturday, May 21, 2011
With Greencastle Police Sgt. Chris Jones hoisting the "Flame of Hope" torch and giving a big thumbs up Friday afternoon a group of local law enforcement personnel nears their finish line at the Putnam County Comprehensive Services building on Tennessee Street. Representing the Greencastle Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, DePauw Police and the Area 30 Career Center law enforcement class, the runners carried the torch from the gazebo at Calbert Way and State Road 240 west along Veterans Memorial Highway and north on U.S. 231 to Tennessee Street as part of a regional torch run in support of the Indiana Special Olympics.

Mike Downing of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department carries the torch on Veterans Memorial Highway.

  • Not always a big fan of cops, but admittedly that's a pretty cool thing they're doing.
