City Police

Two theft arrests were made recently by City Police officers following separate incidents at the Greencastle Walmart store.

At 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, Officer Albert Epple was called to the store after Jarrel William Votzie, 36, Indianapolis, attempted to use a gift card that store officials had reportedly red-flagged.

Votzie was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a theft charge.

Police allege that he had previously stolen an item from Walmart and returned it, receiving a gift card to replace it. Store officials later determined the original item had been stolen.

On Saturday, Officer Darrel Bunten was called to the Walmart store, where he arrested Kevin Ryan Spurrier, 37, no permanent address.

Spurrier was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

Police said Spurrier allegedly pocketed two packages of batteries and a pair of sunglasses. Total value of the items was listed at $23.48.

One other recent arrest occurred at 4:18 a.m. Sunday when Officer Matt Huffman picked up Steven L. Shepard, 42, Greencastle, for public intoxication in the 1200 block of Castlebury Drive.

Shepard registered .16 percent blood-alcohol content under PBT testing.

In another alcohol-related incident, officers were called to Robe-Ann Park because of a reported fight at 8:50 p.m. Sunday.

A 16-year-old Poland female was arrested for battery, disorderly conduct and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, police said. She registered .16 percent blood-alcohol content under PBT testing.

Meanwhile, Tyler Henry, 18, Greencastle, was cited at the same time for being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

In other police reports, a two-vehicle accident reported at 10th Street and State Road 240 as Paul Blue Jr., 63, Greencastle, was eastbound on 240, driving a 2007 Ford Explorer. As he tried to turn left onto 10th Street he inadvertently turned into the path of a westbound 2003 Mercury Sable, driven by Mary Davis-Wright, 60, Terre Haute.

Blue said he did not see the oncoming car because of the heavy rainfall at the time.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000 by Officer Nick Eastham.

Davies-Wright was ticketed for an expired license plate.
