Fireworks at Raccoon Lake slated as part of July 2 activities

Friday, June 24, 2011

The Raccoon State Recreation Area will hold its annual Beach Bash and fireworks display Saturday, July 2.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a sand-sculpture contest for all ages. Games, including tug-of-war and a water-balloon toss, begin at 1 p.m.

Visitors can cap off the day with an evening of fireworks, beginning at dusk. The fireworks are co-sponsored by Raccoon SRA, Bellmore Volunteer Fire Department and the Raccoon Lake/Union Township Property Owners Association.

In the event of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 3.

The band 15th and Hulman will perform 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 3 at the beach.

Funding of the fireworks is supported solely by donations from the community and park visitors. Anyone interested in helping defray the cost may contact Mike Clingerman, Raccoon SRA property manager, or Randy Gordon, interpretive naturalist, both at 344-1412.

Raccoon SRA is located off U.S. 36 in southeastern Parke County.
