Boetjer earns third Player of the Year honor

The South Putnam Eagles claimed the 2011 Class 2A softball title this year and was perfect in the West Central Conference as well as county play. Thus the Eagles led the 2011 All Putnam County team with five selections, with Greencastle and North Putnam adding three each and Cloverdale having two.

South Putnam junior Brooke Boetjer dominated the softball scene this year, including a perfect record in the tournament, and accordingly has earned her third consecutive Banner Graphic Player of the Year honor.

In addition to Boetjer, teammates Emily Dabkowski, Jenny Thompson, Jenna Jones and MaKenzie Trisler joined her on the team. Also making the squad were Greencastle's Taylor Pruitt, Kayla Downing and Alex Basile; North Putnam's Taylor Judy, Lauren Green and Katie Welch and Cloverdale's Kara Knapp and Paige Gutierrez.

After an impressive sophomore season, Boetjer improved in almost every category on her stat line. For the season she batted .474 with six home runs, 10 doubles and 26 RBIs. She also had 36 hits and scored 25 runs. On the mound, she was 21-1 with a county-high 184 strikeouts and a county-best ERA 0.45.

Junior shortstop Dabowski led the county in batting average with an astounding .505, with one home run, eight triples, seven doubles and 25 RBIs. Sophomore Jenna Jones batted .390 and was second on the team in home runs with four. She added three triples, six doubles, 20 RBIs and earned a team-high 17 walks.

Junior Jenna Thompson had a batting average of .349 with two home runs and was second on the team with five triples. She also recorded seven doubles, 19 RBIs and four stolen bases. Freshman MaKenzie Trisler was third on the team with a .421 batting average with one home run, one triple and five doubles. She also chipped in 13 RBIs and scored 13 runs on the season.

Greencastle junior Taylor Pruitt was second on the team with a batting average of .403 with two home runs, one triple and 10 doubles. She also had 11 RBIs, 31 hits and 16 runs scored for the Tiger Cubs. She led the county in stolen bases with 12.

Senior Kayla Downing had a .333 for the Tiger

Cubs with six home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs. She also had 21 hits. On the mound, Downing recorded 60 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.44. Freshman Alex Basile led the team with a .415 batting average with one triple and two doubles. She also had eight RBIs and 22 hits. She had five runs scored on the season.

North Putnam senior Taylor Judy was second on the Cougars in batting average with an average of .408 with one home run, six doubles and nine RBIs. She also had 29 hits. Judy had a record of 8-8 on the mound with an ERA of 1.28 and 126 strikeouts.

Fellow senior Lauren Green had a batting average of .405 with three triples, two doubles and 12 RBIs. She led the team in hits with 30 and had eight stolen bases. Pitching she had a record of 4-3 with an ERA 2.39 and 34 strikeouts. Sophomore Katie Welch led the team with a .419 batting average with one home run, one triple and seven doubles. She had 26 hits and four stolen bases.

Cloverdale junior Kara Knapp led her squad with a batting average of .411 with four homers, one triple and nine doubles. She led the team with 23 RBIs, 19 runs scored and 30 hits. Fellow junior Paige Gutierrez was second on the team with a .364 batting average with one triple and six doubles. She had 28 hits and 15 RBIs for the Clovers in 2011. She had a record of 12-6 on the mound with an ERA of 1.69 with 174 strikeouts.
