Al and Joan Tucker establish endowment for the community

Joan and Al Tucker of Cloverdale have established a new endowment as part of the Putnam County Foundation Silver Anniversary League of donors.

The Putnam County Community Foundation has announced the establishment of a new endowment benefiting the Community Grants program.

"These unrestricted endowments are particularly beneficial because they allow the Community Foundation to respond to new opportunities and changing needs," Foundation Executive Director Elaine Peck said. "The Community Foundation would not have been able to help bring Ivy Tech and Rural Transit to Putnam County without unrestricted endowments."

Al and Joan Tucker of Cloverdale provided their rationale for establishing the new endowment as part of the Silver Anniversary League of donors in honor of the Foundation's 25th year.

"Cloverdale and Putnam County have been great places for the Tucker family to work, play, and raise a family," Al Tucker said. "We have been truly blessed, and wanted to be a part of a perpetual gift to Putnam County through the Putnam County Community Foundation."

Al and Joan moved to Cloverdale in 1963 when Al started his career as a teacher and coach. Joan continued her nursing career in Putnam County until her retirement in 2000. Al's second career was as a local State Farm Insurance agent until his retirement in 2007.

The Tuckers were both products of large families with limited resources -- other than 10 and 11 siblings.

"Al and Joan have lived a life of giving, caring, and sharing," Peck said. "Al served on the board of directors of the Community Foundation and continues to serve on the Lilly Scholarship Selection Committee and the Cloverdale Dollars for Scholars."

Anyone may contribute to the Al and Joan Tucker Family Endowment or start a new endowment in his/her own name. Contributions to the Endowment should be made payable to the Putnam County Community Foundation with "Al and Joan Tucker Endowment" in the memo, and mailed to 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle IN 46135.

Foundation staff members are available to help donors make gifts of cash, stock, retirement assets, life insurance, bequests, real estate and other types of gifts.

The Putnam County Community Foundation administers more than 220 funds and endowments for donors, supporting a variety of charitable purposes.
