Marjorie Voorhees McCall

Marjorie Voorhees McCall, 95, Granger, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross in South Bend.

She was born April 5, 1915 in Flora to Gertha and Margaret Voorhees.

In 1940 she married Elmer E. McCall, former teacher and basketball coach at South Bend Central High School and DePauw University. Elmer passed away in 2003.

Marjorie was a gifted pianist and organist who received a degree in music from Indiana University in 1938. She also attended University of Michigan School of Music. She was a 75-year member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

After graduation, she taught school for a year and then performed in hotel dining rooms in the Midwest and played piano on her onw readio program in California.

She and Elmer had an eventful life while Elmer pursued a successful teaching and coaching career. They also traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad.

Surviving are daughters Marcia DeLuca (Joe) of Martinez, Calif. and Sharon Jenson (Gunnar) of South Bend; grandchildren Scott DeLuca (Jamie) of Driggs, Idaho and Melissa DeLuca of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; and great-grandchildren Cody, Dustin and Shane DeLuca.

Preceding her in death were her parents, sister Josephine and brother George.

Welsheimer Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. A private ceremony will be held at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.
