James A. "Jim" Shamel, 65, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1946 in Indianapolis to Lloyd Richard Shamel and Margaret Sharp Shamel.

Mr. Shamel served his country in the National Guard. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1592 and American Legion Post 58.

Jim retired from IBM after 30 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Edna L. Shamel; children Tamme Shamel Been of Charleston, Richard Shamel and wife Alicia of Brazil and stepdaughter Debra Hacker and husband Doug of Cloverdale; his sisters, Carol Hughes of Texas and Rebecca Hughes of Brazil; stepmother Mary Ruth Shamel of Greencastle; two grandchildren, Harrison Been and Haleigh Been; and three stepgrandchildren, Lindsay Hacker, Shelby Hacker and Katie Hacker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard E. Shamel; infant daughter Kimberly Shamel; infant granddaughter Shelby Been; and stepdaughter and her husband, Wendy and Tom Rose.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Greencastle Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1592, 212 W. Franklin St.
