Mary I. Johnson, 85, Hardyville, Ky., formerly of Poland, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Glasgow, Ky.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1925 in Poland and was the daughter of the late Fred A. and Violet Marie (Whelchel) Jaynes.

She was a homemaker, member of the American Legion Auxiliary Hurst-Collins Post No. 281, Cloverdale and a former Jackson Township, Owen County Democratic precinct committee woman.

She is survived by children Rebecca M. Spear and husband Luther of Hardyville, Billie Jo Smith and husband Merle of Glasgow and David Johnson and wife Marilyn Kay of New Jersey; her brother Paul Jaynes of Poland; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Augusta "Gus" Allen Johnson; her sisters, Wilma Arvena Delp, Leatha Leona Frye, Vera Jaus, Gracie Juanita Delp, Dorothy Hannell, Helen Lewis and Betty Turner; and her brothers, Albert Jaynes and Freddie Lehman Jaynes.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 18 at Cloverdale Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
