Ernest Ray Hord, 84, Cloverdale, passed away on July 21, 2011 at Putnam County Hospital.

He was born on May 6, 1927 in Indianapolis, and was the son of the late Richard Ray and Helen (Stuck) Hord.

He married Evelyn Rae (Dillard) Hord on Feb. 6, 1971, and she survives.

He was a self-employed house painter, veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and a member of Jesse M. Lee VFW Post 1550 at Greencastle.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Susan Hord

Inman and husband Peter J., St. Augustine, Fla., Michael Hord and wife Carol, Plymouth, Idaho, Douglas Hord, Indianapolis, Renzie Lee Miller, Indianapolis; his sister, Elanore "Babe" Singhurst, Spencer; his brothers, Clarence Hord, Indianapolis, Joe Hord, Mississippi, and Paul Hord, Martinsville; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan C. Skipworth; his son, Steven Lee Hord; and his sister, Mildred Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 25 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. Steve Williams officiating.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25 from 4 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, Fla.
