Barbara N. McClaine

Mrs. Barbara N. McClaine, 79, Greencastle, passed away Sunday, Aug. 1, 2011 at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville.

Born April 30, 1932, to Harley C. and Doris M. (Anderson) Hedge and a 1950 graduate of Greencastle High School. She married Don "Scotty" McClaine on Feb. 14, 1982 and he preceded her in death on January 11, 2005.

Barbara had been a real estate broker with Evens Reality in Greencastle and Sims Reality in Cloverdale. She sang with the John Wood Combo for more than eight years.

She was very active in the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary for more than 54 years, where she had went as high as district president. She was active several years in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 58, the Girls State Program, and spent many years installing officers in both auxiliaries.

Survivors include her sons, R. Jay (Melissa) Lyon of Marion and John N. (Kathy) Lyon of Columbus, Ohio; a granddaughter, Erin Lyon of Marion; and cousins Joan Swain of Marion, Ann Bible of Mooresville, Jim Anderson of Reelsville, Hila Crawley of Indianapolis, Janet Boettcher of Michigan and Jean Davis of Michigan.

Barbara wished to thank her friends and neighbors who have helped her in tough times, especially Bev Costin, Edna Cook, and Doris O'Hair

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Richard W. Hedge.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Bowen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greencastle Alumni Scholarship Fund or the Putnam County Senior Center would be greatly appreciated.
