Harold E. Thompson, 93, Greensburg, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at the Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Harold was born on Oct. 3, 1917 in Johnson County. He was the son of Joy and Etoilie Thompson. Harold married Lela Irene Thompson on March 12, 1939 in Indianapolis and she preceded him in death in 2001.

Harold was a farmer for more than 30 years and worked in the maintenance department for Reliance Electric in Columbus until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Greensburg and was a 60-plus year member of the Westport Masonic Lodge. Harold was also a self-taught master woodworker.

Harold is survived by daughter Karen (Jim) Copeland of New Castle; son Gerel (Lynn) Thompson of Greencastle; sister Mary Weakley of Shelbyville; grandchildren Lisa (Andy) Costin of Oak Harbor, Wash., Gerrit (Julie) Thompson of Greencastle and Sara (Kenny) Short of Greencastle; and great-grandchildren Dustin and Samantha Costin, Tyler and Seth Thompson and Madison, Jonathan and Rebekah Short.

In addition to his wife Irene, Harold was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dorothy Morris.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg, from 5-8 p.m. The celebration of life service will be Friday, Aug. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
