Thursday, August 4, 2011

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Herr von Huber, will present its annual German Music Festival Sunday, Aug. 7 at the special time of 7:15 p.m. in the Forest Park bandshell, rain or shine.

The evening will begin with the roving German Band performing all the Oktoberfest favorites in the vicinity of the bandshell.

At 8 p.m. the entire BCB will take to the stage with marches, waltzes and classical music played by German concert bands over the past 200 years.

Military marches came to America along with the German immigrants who brought tubas, baritone horns and euphoniums as essential baggage. John Philip Sousa was the son of a Bavarian mother and Portuguese father who met in New York City.

Music will be drawn from "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" by Jessel, "Prepare For Action" by Blankenburg, "Under The Double Eagle" by Wagner, "Flag Of Victory" by von Blon, "Staunch And True" and "Old Comrades" both by Teike.

Concert works will include "Schneewalzer" by Koschat, "The Jolly Robbers" by von Suppe, "Blue Danube" by Strauss, "Lohengrin" by Wagner and "A Mozart Festival" arranged by Johnson.
