Putting it to the test

Wednesday, August 31, 2011
Representatives from ATC Associates Inc., Indianapolis, observe one of three new test wells drilled on City Hall property at Locust and Washington streets Monday afternoon. Although the on-site project geologist deferred comment on the matter to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, city officials said the monitoring was in connection with remediation and clean-up of possible gasoline and oil residue coming from adjacent gas station sites past and present. The wells will monitor for potential groundwater contamination. Similar test wells were already in place north and east of the City Hall building.

  • One wonders why there is concern about ground water contamination at this site since no one in Greencastle is on a well. What will be done if they do find contamination?
