Greencastle's girls golf squad got the chance to see some of the best competition in the western part of the state Monday afternoon when No. 19 ranked Terre Haute North came to Windy Hill.
The Patriots, paced by All-State selection Rachel Welker's one-under score of 35, shot a 170 on the day, well in front of the home sides' 212.
Nicole Anderson also broke 40 for the Patriots, shooting 39, with Anna Potter carding a 46 and Courtney Huffenberger shooting 50.
Greencastle was paced by Katie Hedge's 50, with Liz Johnson shooting 51, McKenzie St. Marie carding 52, and Jessie Bennett in on 59.
While the Patriots showed the quality they had available, it was a bit disappointing for the Tiger Cubs and head coach Brad Kingma, who said a lot of strokes were left on the course.
"Katie played well last time, and she got off to a decent start today. She was +2 over after four but got lost after that, mainly with the short game," Kingma said.
"Liz has been pretty consistent, and so has McKenzie. Both shot about where they have been. Jessie's had a little trouble taking what we've done out on the range and bringing it to the course. She's got the ability, she's just got to relax out there on the course."
With back to back meets on Wednesday and Thursday, Kingma hopes that the squad will have gotten back on track, particularly with Wednesday's meet at Deer Creek, the WCC meet course.
"We've got a match Wednesday with Monrovia and Cloverdale, a good look at half the conference. We've got to learn how to play some of the greens better and take the time to read them," Kingma said.
"We need to play the hole, figure out where we need to position. Some of the holes require you to lay up out there. We ran into some problems the first time we played there hitting to hard and into water, so we need to work on those kind of positioning things."
