After-school tutoring to begin registration

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Registration for After-School Tutoring at Gobin is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8 from 3-5 p.m. at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church on the DePauw University campus.

The program is sponsored by the Reading Improvement Center, a partner of United Way of Putnam County. This tutoring program offers students of all ages to improve their basic reading and studying skills.

Students from elementary schools can come directly from school for a 90-minute program that includes 45 minutes of individual reading and homework help, planned activities, and time for a snack as well as some fun.

Older students will be able to choose a scheduled time and day between Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday sessions. These individual help sessions will last for an hour at a time between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m..

The tutors, DePauw University students, teach essential reading and study skills using sound effects materials. This dedicated group helps more than 50 students each year and includes Banner Scholars, work-study students and volunteers. Many work with the programs throughout their college careers.

Cost for the tutoring is $150 for two sessions per week, with reduced and monthly payments available.

For more information, persons may contact Cathy Merrell at 653-9569 or visit the After-School Tutoring at Gobin Facebook page.
