TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle girls' cross country team placed 12th at the Terre Haute North State Preview meet Saturday with a total of 280. Carmel won the event with a total of 61.

Leading the way for GHS in an overall eighth place was Colleen Weatherford finishing with a time of 20:18.5. Weatherford placed eighth out of 229 runners in the event.

"Colleen ran more determined today and it showed throughout her race," head coach Garry Anderson said

Anderson said the cool morning temps quickly elevated almost as the starting gun was fired and people could see the affects.

"You could tell it was affecting the runners by the end of the 3K portion of the race," he said.

Finishing behind Weatherford was Emily Gill, who placed 40th with a time of 21:33.3. Anderson said Gill ran hard and it was probably her best meet of the season.

Kayla Cash was 62nd with a time of 22:36.4, while Megan Haynes was 82nd with a time of 23:16.1. Placing 88th was Paige Pickens in a time of 23:30.8, with Alex Sroffregen placing 96th in a time of 23:54.

Abigail Wilson was 111th overall with a time of 24:26.5 and Anderson said she's improving and that will have an impact on the team.

"Abigail is slowly getting back to where she was last season," he said. "That will be a big plus for the team."

Rounding out the GHS finishers was Cheyenne Fauvergue in 119th with a time of 24:33.6 and Sammy Haynes in 160th with a time of 26:14.1.

"I was really surprised by how quick the temperature went up from the start of the race," Anderson said. "We seemed more determined and ready to race today."
