Warhol exhibit hits DePauw's campus
DePauw University has a new addition to the galleries at the Peeler Art Center. The most recent addition, "I Am A Camera," showcases selections from Andy Warhol's photography.
The exhibit includes some of Warhol's most prominent work, such as a selection of his Polaroid photographs, screen tests and black and white prints. Many of the photographs are shown next to original Warhol quotations.
"The best thing about a picture is that it never changes even when the people in it do" is one such quotation.
Many of the photographs are a series of Polaroid shots of one person in particular, giving the feel of the 1950s. Although, many may consider his photography amateur, it illustrates how Warhol lived his daily life.
The exhibit also showcases many of Warhol's black and white screen tests. These are silent tests and last three minutes each or one roll of film. These screen tests showcase Warhol's way of creating a "living portrait."
The Warhol exhibit is free and open to the public. The exhibit will run until Friday, Dec. 9.
The Warhol gallery at the Peeler Center (southeast corner of Hanna and Jackson streets) is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.
