George Michael York, 60, of Coatesville passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 after a long illness.

Mike was born on Oct. 20, 1950 in Greencastle to George Evan and Ruby Anne Parker York.

He was a 1969 graduate of Greencastle High School and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Mike retired from the Putnam County Highway Garage after 30 years of service. His passion and love was coaching slow pitch softball and being the district commissioner for the Indiana Amateur Softball Association (ASA). He touched hundreds of lives through his dedication and kindness.

His parents preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife Cheryl; children John York and wife Amy of Greencastle, Angela Garl and husband Jacob of Greencastle, Jordan York and Alyssa York of Coatesville; sister Nancy Knapp and husband Carl of Greencastle; seven grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Jaylen and Jarrett York and Remington, Maddelyn and Maverick Garl; and nephew and nieces Dan, Katie and Corie.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Putnamville Cemetery. A memorial celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 260 East County Road 300 South, Greencastle.
