More from Ma

Saturday, October 1, 2011

Sue Birdsell and Debbie Witt enjoyed listening to music from noted cellist Yo-Yo Ma during a special concert event Friday at Asbury Towers in Greencastle. Ma gave a lecture at DePauw University Thursday night and a campus concert Friday evening. [Order this photo]

That's nice that Yo-Yo Ma went to Asbury Towers. What would have made a real difference is if DePauw had coordinated with the local school corporations to have Yo-Yo Ma perform at a local school and invite other schools in the county, or hold a special concert for students on campus during the day. He could have given his talk and performance for students and been a real inspiration. DPU has known for a long time that he would be here--which would have given the schools plenty of time to plan a local field trip to the DPU campus. DePauw wants to know how they can be part of the community. Get involved with the community and include the schools when you have someone of Yo-Yo Ma's stature. DePauw missed the boat on this one.
