James F. Arthur, 77, formerly of Darlington, passed away Tuesday morning at Williamsburg Nursing Home in Crawfordsville.

He was born at home in rural Clermont, Ind., on July 26, 1934 to Frank and Janice Stout Arthur.

He married Fern M. Redden on March 25, 1962. They divorced. On June 17, 1972 he married Rosalie Gorrell in Crawfordsville. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2007.

Mr. Arthur worked various jobs as a milk hauler, dairy farmer, for the county highway and CEL&P, but is best remembered for the business he began in 1974, Arthur's Septic Tank Cleaning and Portable Toilet Rental.

Surviving family members include his daughter, Karla (Michael) Joyce of Mace; brother William Arthur of Lebanon and sister Ruthmary Lopez of Fortville, five grandsons, Billy, Dustin, Joe and Chris Leslie, and Jeffrey McKee, a granddaughter, Natalie McKee, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Leslie of Darlington on June 15, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
