Tzouanakis girls win state cross country championship

The Tzouanakis cross country team made its first appearance at the state cross country meet on Oct. 1 and had a very good outcome. The girls' team won the state championship, while the boys fielded an incomplete team. Members of the Tzounakis team include Emma Wilson, Seelye Stoffregen, Sydney Lewis, Brooke Sieg, Mika Mozawa, Gretchen Weliever, Kaylinn Hankins, Mabel Lewis, Abigail Meyer, Dayan Martinez, Jack Riggle, Nikolas Mahaffey, Tyler Hopper and coach Bobby Hopper.

The first-ever Tzouanakis cross country teams competed at the state cross country championships for middle and intermediate schools on Oct. 1. The girls' team won the state championship, while the boys fielded an incomplete team.

Emma Wilson led the girls' team, placing first with a time of 8:00.8, while Seelye Stoffregen was fourth in a time of 8:20.6. Sydney Lewis was 16th with a time of 9:03.4, with Brooke Sieg finishing 46th with a time of 9:48.5 and Mika Mozawa 48th with a time of 9:52.4.

Gretchen Weliever was 56th with a time of 10:07.3, with Kaylinn Hankins placing 57th in a time of 10:10.9. Mabel Lewis was 76th on the day in 10:54.5 and Abigail Meyer rounded out the Greencastle runners in 89th place with a time of 11:47.7

In the boys race, Dayan Martinez finished 93rd for Greencastle with a time of 10:15.8, while Jack Riggle was 96th in a time of 10:26.7. Nikolas Mahaffey was 103rd with a time of 10:57.8 and Tyler Hopper was 104th with a time of 11:05.4
